This past Sunday was Ontario Provincial championships, in (surprisingly) snowy Riverdale Park. I pre-rode the course the day before, and between the snow, the mud, and the off-camber sections, I had a feeling it would be hard to really lay it down anywhere, and that it was likely to be a case of trying to make the fewest mistakes. I was feeling pretty good about the race, and even though my goal at the beginning of the season was top half of the field, I felt pretty good about my chances for a podium finish.
The race was really, really fun. Unfortunately, I didn't get the podium I was looking for, as I made a few mistakes, went down a couple of times, and couldn't make the time back up. The course conditions were definitely the hardest thing about the race - some sections were so slick, it was unbelievable. I bailed climbing on one lap - one minute I was moving forwards, then I was sideways, and just as quickly, I was flailing on the ground and trying to unclip, with Teddy standing over me on the sidelines shouting "Woman down! We've got a woman down!". Tons of spectators, including a bunch of my city cycling friends, and overall it was a great event and one hell of a spectacle.
