Last night went to an awards party, telling myself I would leave by 10pm so I could still get up early to go to the gym. When I got there, and saw that there were Gold Sprint roller racers, I told myself that I wanted to race, but shouldn't since I was wearing office clothes from a Women in Leadership event I had gone to earlier.
Lies. All lies!
I got talked in to racing against J, who is insanely fit and helping me become so. Admittedly, twisting my arm to race wasn't that hard. Getting on the bike, I realized that it wasn't that indecent in the skirt. Well, I haven't seen photos, so I hope this holds true. Not only did I have to work hard in that first sprint, J beat me by about half a second! My bike racer ego was wounded, and I wasn't ready to let it go that easily, so we decided to give it another go. Second time around, I came out with the victory, but it was another close race!
We had the fastest women's times, so we were in for the final. A new Crumpler bag was on the line, and after the men's race, we had at it one more time. This time, J. had a better start, and we were working at about the same rate, so I was having trouble catching her. I looked up at the clock halfway through, saw that I was behind, and just gave it everything I had left. Fast legs, fast legs, fast legs. Our race was so close, Navid insisted on playing it back for us, and in the last quarter, I pulled it out and took the win. I also got my fastest time of the night - 26.89.
So, instead of home at 10, it was a little closer to 12.30. And rather than up early to go to the gym, I slept in, needing a bit of extra sleep. And as long as the photos of me in a blouse and skirt, spinning my heart out, aren't too indecent, it'll be worth it!
