This year I got an invite to the fun winter activities up in Collingwood chez Brad and Rachael. Two years ago, it was a total blast, and I knew this year would be no different.
I wanted to run a bunch of errands on Friday since I had the day off work, so we spent a chunk of the day in the city. We drove up in the afternoon. There was a wicked rainstorm near Orangeville, which didn't bode well for the xc skis we had rented. No matter - we got up to Collingwood around 6pm, just after dark, and just as the food was hitting the table. Impeccable timing!
New Years eve was fun - loads of great food, and a couple of fun games I'd never played before - Apples to Apples, and Taboo. I think the travel back from Victoria was getting to me, because my energy levels were starting to flag. Nothing an absolutely ridiculous dance to Michael Jackson on the Wii couldn't fix! We made it to midnight, and toasted 2011.
The next morning, after a stellar breakfast, it was time to welcome the new year with some fresh air, snow and exercise. We went on a great hike on the Bruce Trail (I think). Rachael and I remembered the last Jan 1 hike, when Tara took off her boots for one stream crossing. This year, there was lots of deep, fluffy white stuff, and we had a good time jumping into it and sliding down it.
After lunch, the Boy and I left to stay with other friends in Kearney. It was pretty low key, but nice to spend a bit more time visiting friends. I made good friends with the pups there.
Sunday was even less exciting, as we did the responsible thing and drove back to the city, spending a couple of hours moving the last of our stuff out of our previous apartment. On a positive note, it's nice to feel like the new year has started with all that stuff done!
