I love the first race. Hell, I love all races, but the first one... running into friends, catching up with people... it's so much fun.
And now, the briefest of race reports...
Hot and humid. The ground was pretty wet from rain earlier in the week, and ruts and muddy sections opened up courtesy of the 10am race. 7 women racing - 3 senior, 4 master. It was fast and hard right from the start. I was working hard to keep up with the first two women, which I managed for a lap and half. I even led for about half a lap, which is a first for me! We split apart part way through lap 2, and I ended up in third. The rest of the race was a lot of suffering... I have no idea how many laps we did, but I was pushing really hard the whole time, trying to maintain my gap over the 4th place woman and focusing on catching the M2 riders that were within sight.
My first podium, finishing 3rd!
