It's the new year, and it's time for me to start planning out 2009. If you know me, you know that I am a long-time planner - not necessarily long-term, but it just takes me a long time to come to a plan. I think I just like to make sure my plan is really sound, but as a result, I probably spend a long time in the pre-planning phase. Rolling stuff around in my head, trying to imagine how things will fit together.
Last night, I finally pulled out a calendar, and started to look at how things will shape up. I have plans for a big trip in late May, so I'm not planning as intense a summer of racing - which means I am not going to be building to a major peak in the summer, instead really focusing the bike training on June, to build to cross season. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out in terms of racing. I think I had a lot of residual fitness from such an intense summer, and I am hoping to maintain and build on it, without burning out. Still planning on some mountain bike racing, and possibly some road races, as well (Dear OCA - please post your road schedule, thanks!).
Short term, I'm working with a personal trainer to help me get quality workouts in the gym, and to get my nutrition in order. Add a bit of running, a spinning class with PP, and flexibility to snowshoe, run, hike or spin on the weekend, and I'm pretty happy with the cross-training/prep I've got set for January.
