true north team ride

Two of my excellent teammates organized the first social event – a team ride in the Don (apparently a foreign and exotic ride locale for the non-Torontonians), and BBQ. After a few weather issues, we ended up with a group of 6 on Sunday, heading out to tackle the trails. (Unfortunately, most of the non-Torontonians were not able to make the Sunday playdate, and we ended up with a crowd that rides in the Don with some frequency. Fortunately, the Boy guided us to some trails that were new to virtually everyone, so even the more seasoned Don riders got some new.) We picked up a few friends in the trails, and our little pack grew by two more (also fast) riders.

Asides from having to work really hard to keep up, and getting somewhat dehydrated and more-than-somewhat dropped, I had a great time. (Note to self: install second bottle cage on bike tonight.) It was hard work keeping up with Juliette and the boys (and trying to guess the direction when I was further off the back). It was frustrating at times, and as I got more tired, my concentration and technical skills went down. I admit to being pretty grumpy by the end, but despite my grumpiness, I knew that I had to suck it up and use it as a learning experience to help me get faster (some lessons don’t need hindsight or time to reflect).

Anyway, after a shower, an easy spin to High Park on the cruiser for the BBQ and a beer, the grumpiness was long forgotten. Hopefully next time we'll have more out-of-towners able to join in, too.
